About

Personal Statement

I'm a gynecological oncologist, which means that I did specialized training after an OB-GYN residency to focus on cancers of the female reproductive tract. These include uterine, cervical, vulvar, vaginal and ovarian cancers. I love being able to practice medicine in the state where I grew up. After returning from my residency at Dartmouth, I realized how well I relate to people here in Central Kentucky. I grew up around these people, they're who I know.

I place a lot of importance on making the patient and their family feel comfortable. I really enjoy hearing the variety of replies that I get from patients when I ask how they spend their day-to-day and just hearing about the unique aspects of their lives. I see patients here locally as well as from rural parts of the state, and I think that's one of the things that I enjoy most. I see patients of all ages who are from a variety of backgrounds, education levels and social circumstances, and I really enjoy that aspect.

Before seeing *Dr. Miller, I had only been treated for my rare disease by one doctor. That doctor performed my initial surgery and treated my EMPD for five years. I only changed doctors because the previous one left the area. *Dr. Miller had very large shoes to fill. It will take a while for her to gain my absolute trust. I was impressed with her friendliness.

I have never had a provider listen to my issues and answer questions the way I have with these providers. I truly feel hope for the first time in 4 plus years. Thank you for making me feel heard and seen.

Although overseen by a very nice, knowledgeable physician, the resident spent most of the time with me. I would recommend the physician, however. And she explained everything well and has great bedside manner. The overall care was fine, but I doubt any patient has as much confidence in a trainee as a fully trained physician or staff member. In my case, for instance, an office biopsy had to be stopped because of what is apparently a common problem that can occur. However, because the trainee was performing it until the physician came in and supervised and stopped it, I will never really feel I know if what occurred would have ended differently if a physician had performed it or been there from the start. I am not complaining, the situation makes sense, just noting feelings.

I was informed the morning of the appointment that I would not be seeing Dr. Miller, but instead an APRN. Because of my frustration of the whole waiting thing, Dr. Miller performed the exam instead. It almost seemed that she didn't know about the change either.

Felt like I was just a number, my expectations were that I would have more time to ask questions, discuss options and be given all the information to make a decision not just one side of the Information Feel like I was only given the information she wanted me to have, felt very rushed into I have to do what she wanted, was only given one side of information.Feel like being pressured into an invasive procedure without a lot of why and benefits verses negative.
