Perioperative Nursing Services

The Perioperative (Surgical) Nursing Services units are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital and 12 hours a day at UK Good Samaritan Hospital and the Center for Advanced Surgery. The endoscopy units at Chandler and Good Samaritan are staffed 12 and 10 hours per day, respectively.

  • The Perioperative Services Department operates in 51 operating rooms in multiple locations.
  • About 2,300 patients of all ages have surgery each month at UK HealthCare, including outpatient and inpatient procedures.
  • Perioperative Nursing Services consists of:
    • Center for Advanced Surgery (CAS)
    • Chandler major operating room (OR)
    • Good Samaritan Hospital operating rooms
    • Two endoscopy units with intake and recovery capacity
    • Two preoperative anesthesia clinics
    • 21 operating room suites
    • Three post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) recovery rooms
    • Three central sterile processing areas
    • A materials management supplies area

Chandler Hospital campus:

  • 32 operating rooms and one procedure room
  • State-of-the-art operating suites with the most advanced robotic technology and specialty rooms for cardiac, neurology, urology, vascular, transplant and pediatrics

Good Samaritan campus:

  • 11 operating rooms
  • Handles vast array of surgical cases

Center for Advanced Surgery: 

  • Eight operating rooms
  • Provides expertise in the care of patients whose surgery can be performed in the ambulatory setting
