About

Dr. John Franklin is a native of Western Kentucky and obtained his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Louisville. He continued at UofL for both his medical degree and residency training in ophthalmology, then completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Franklin has a special interest in treating pediatric glaucoma, and for the past few years has been the only pediatric ophthalmologist in the state to treat this condition. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

His wife, Dr. Lucy Eakle Franklin, also works at UK HealthCare in comprehensive ophthalmology. They have two young daughters.

      Dr. Franklin was wonderful with explaining my son's condition to him. Being that he is a teenager it was nice that he spoke directly to him and answered any of his questions. I appreciate that he took the time to talk with him about his condition and breakdown how the eye works so my son could easily understand. After the visit my son said "this was the first time in 17 years I understand what I have and why my vision is what it is" this is a huge thing for him as he gets older.
