    Coach Calipari

“You better come here and get an opinion”

John Calipari is known for being one of the most active and animated coaches in basketball. But in 2014, Coach Cal was in excruciating pain. That’s how he knew it was time for his second hip replacement surgery—and he knew he wanted it to happen at UK HealthCare’s Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine. Thanks to their innovative approach, Coach Cal’s recovery was much quicker and less painful than his first hip replacement, and he was able to get moving again soon after surgery. Today, he’s back to his signature pacing up and down the court—pain-free and ready to lead the BBN.

    Coach Stoops

    Elite Care for All

Coach Mark Stoops is known for being just about as active as his players on the field. He has struggled with pain in his knee since his college days. As the years went by, it started taking a toll on his life and his active career. In 2015, he made the decision to undergo knee replacement surgery at UK HealthCare’s Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine program, with Dr. Jeff Selby taking the lead on the surgery. After a six-week recovery process, Coach Stoops was finally pain-free for the first time in years. Today, he’s as active as ever, and grateful for the care he received at UK HealthCare. “I've led a much healthier life and been a lot better off since I've had the surgery done. The doctors and the surgeons, they are the real heroes over there.”.

Both Dr. Stevens and Dr. Selby made us feel like we were the only patients in the entire clinic. They both gave us their complete undivided attention and answered all questions plus follow up questions. The visit was actually very help from the perspective of knee-replacement surgery. All positives and negative and honest feedback regarding expectations. No flowers; only facts. Excellent visit!

Dr. Selby was very professional but able to explain things to a layman. I can say the same for his PA, his nurses and the waiting room staff.

Dr. Selby, his office staff and the surgical team which assisted in my total right hip replacement on 2-3-22, were excellent and provided me with exceptional care, explanation of my procedure, recovery & rehab, etc. This was a 6wks follow up office visit post-op. My visit of 3-16-22, as well as my prior office visit were very good. Dr. Selby, and all his staff were very professional, helpful, informative, and did a great job. I would like to thank all of them for what seems to be a successful surgery relieving my pain.

The only thing I can complain about is I'm in great pain and they could not give me anything for pain. I think it's awful that people without a drug problem can't get help.

I may have missed something so keep that in mind. I don't believe I was asked to what extent my problem interfere with work , etc - I should have brought that up. It was never clear to me exactly what was causing pain - other than a general statement on arthritis. Physical therapy was not suggested. I believe I was told there are no downsides to cortisone injection. Sources I consulted ( Mayo clinic, Stanford, Cleveland web sites) all mentioned a number of downsides to steroid injection. They also mentioned PT as a treatment that might help. I initially thought the problem could be related to a labral tear - I'm not sure if that was ruled out and if so how. Radiograph showed arthritis but exam showed fairly good range of motion. So that was a bit confusing.
