About

David B. He went on to complete a burn fellowship, a hand surgery fellowship and a microvascular surgery fellowship at the University of Virginia. Personal Statement

Plastic Surgery is an incredible field in which to practice in that we treat all ages and all socioeconomic groups. Our field contains the skin and its contents from aesthetic surgery to the most complex reconstructive surgery following trauma or cancer. This process also enables us to develop personal relationships with our patients and take them from a place of injury or deformity to restoration of form and function.

The appreciation and gratitude of my patients drives me to continue this journey. I also have the privilege of teaching residents and medical students and exposing them to the power of transformation that we sometimes can effect on our patients. Outside of the hospital I am engaged in sport activities (golf) and a full life of travel and adventure with my wife and our families.

The provider walked in the room, and the very first thing he said to me I have bad news, I do not operate on smokers. Literally the first thing he said to me. I replied, that's great, but what does that have to do with me? I have not smoked in 25+ years. He read my chart wrong. LOL. That put me off just a bit, but I can see where that mistake might be made. He instead should have entered the room and confirmed that I smoke (which I do NOT) before making that statement. LOL

Dr. Drake and his assistant attending doctor were outstanding in the manner they presented info about my hand problems in that they explained it in laymen terms and the potential treatments available and the treatments recommended for day of my visit.

As far as explaining my problem, the best cure for it , how to care for it, length of recup etc very well. If surgery is a successful one I would be happy to give him a very high recommendation. As a matter of fact I would come back to him if need be for future surgeries.

There appeared to be very good communication between the nurses and doctors during the ER visit and the follow up visit was quick and easy. Everyone was patient and worked with us to make sure he was comfortable and understood what was going on.

He wasn't rude and mean spirited, but didn't seem to involve me much in explaining or determining a care plan.

It was a calm and quiet visit, very reassuring for me, as most physicians' offices are loud and frenetic.
