About

Dee A. Abrams is a native Kentuckian and lives in Lexington with her husband and two children. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in athletic training from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond and has more than 20 years of experience in the field. She attended the University of Kentucky and obtained her master's degree in physician assistant studies in 2005. She is board certified and has extensive experience in cardiology, neurosurgery and internal medicine.

Personal Statement

Cardiology became my focus once I realized the beauty and complexity of the heart. I enjoy putting the many pieces of symptoms, medications, anatomy and testing together to see the problem and help patients fix it so that they can lead a better life.

I believe in caring for the whole person and treating the individual, rather than the organ or lab result. My patients are not a number to me. My patients are humans with lives, families, hopes and dreams. My job is to help my patients reach their health goals.

Outside of medicine, my passions include yoga, natural living and getting out in nature as much as possible.

I have had no complaints with my appointments with Dee Abrams. While I don't look forward to medical appointments, I don't mind at all to go to these. Dee explains everything and makes clear what she sees with my health and is very easy to talk with and discuss issues.

I'm sorry, but I was not expecting this provider - She walked in and immediately talked about my book and her family her son and daughter - then in MyChart stated she spent time discussing weight loss with me which did not occur. I feel I wasted a visit! No cardiology ?'s were addressed except what's BP at home? Oh, 160/80 - I'm OK with that. - Well, I'm not!

As usual at UK clinics, my care was provided first by a nurse-practitioner and then by the physician. It's my long experience that the nurse-practitioner deals with the touchy-feely part of the patient's concerns, thus allowing the doctor to concentrate on the important part: ordering the tests, writing the prescriptions.
