Personal Statement

I began my nursing career in 2010 in pulmonary/critical care, taking care of patient with severe and end-stage lung disease, as well as other multi-organ dysfunction. I have always enjoyed the fast-paced and ever-changing environment critical care provides. I became a nurse practitioner in 2015 and worked as an APP for Pulmonary/Critical Care at UK Healthcare. In 2019, I joined the Lung Transplant team as an APP at UK Healthcare and was surprised and fascinated by how different the two services and patient populations are, despite both having lung pathology. I love that lung transplant is a dynamic field, and continues to grow and develop more treatment modalities and interventions to help patients maintain their quality of life after transplant. I most enjoy the patient continuity, as we follow patients along both their pre-transplant and post-transplant lives. Seeing patients recover and regain their previous quality of life is extremely rewarding.
