Transplant Center - What's New
July 13, 2006
Issue No.1
The UK Transplant Center continues growing to meet the needs of Kentucky’s citizens. May 2006 saw a significant number of liver, kidney and kidney/pancreas transplants at UK, averaging more than one transplant every other day.
This was only possible due to the generous gift of life saving organs donated by the citizens of the Commonwealth. We continue to expand our services across the state.
Roberto Gedaly, MD, joined the Transplant Section in April 2006.
Dr. Gedaly served as an instructor at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He was trained in transplant and hepatobiliary surgery at New England Deaconess Hospital, Harvard Medical School and the University of Miami. Dr. Gedaly participates in all areas of abdominal organ transplantation and is a valuable addition to our team.
Fran Stone, RN, transferred from transplant research to the position of coordinator for the Liver and Kidney/Pancreas Team in April. Fran’s background, in addition to research, is neuro and trauma nursing.
Lori Adams, RN, joined our staff in March as the outreach coordinator for the Liver and Kidney/Pancreas Team. Lori’s background includes surgical
nursing and clinical management.
Dinesh Ranjan, MD, Director of Liver and Pancreas Transplantation, Professor of Surgery, and Chief of the Transplant Section at UK moderated a session at the International College of Surgeons 68th Annual Surgical Update in Nashville June 21-24, 2006. Dr. Ranjan’s presentation was the “Surgical Cure of Diabetes."
