Trust for Life: UK vs. UofL Gift of Life Challenge
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 11, 2005) – Competing on the hardwood is not the only rivalry between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville this year. The fifth annual Gift of Life Challenge competition between the two universities is Nov. 14 through Nov. 30.
At the end of the two-week campaign, the university with the most signatures on Trust for Life petitions will receive recognition during halftime festivities at the UK/UofL basketball game on Dec. 17, at Rupp Arena.
UK’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter, Delta Gamma Sorority, and National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) are gearing up to collect 3,000 or more signatures needed to beat UofL, which won last year’s challenge.
“Our student organization is so excited and privileged to help the Trust for Life and to represent UK for the Gift for Life competition,” said Julie Berry, PRSSA student member and coordinator for the competition. “Signing the back of your driver’s license for organ and tissue donations is extremely important for people on the organ donor waiting list in Kentucky and throughout the United States.”
On Nov. 14, CAT 104.5 FM will begin the kickoff for the event from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the UK Student Center patio. A petition station across from Starbucks will open at 1 p.m. Other locations at UK to sign petitions are scheduled at the Whitehall Classroom Building, Grehan Journalism Building, Gatton College of Business and Economics’ atrium, Agriculture Science Center North, along with UK Hospital and the Kentucky Clinic from Nov. 14-30. The Grehan Journalism Building will have a petition station on the first floor from Dec. 1 through 9.
Individuals who have already signed their driver’s license may also sign the petition. As a token of thanks, signers will receive ID holders sponsored by Kentucky Circuit Court Clerk’s Trust for Life and Roche Pharmaceuticals.
Kentucky Circuit Court Clerk’s Trust for Life has collected 112,907 signatures for the year so far. The goal of the Gift of Life competition is to add 3,000 more and beat UofL.
