During the 2005 State Wrestling Duals, Hunter suffered a year-ending injury. In his last match before state, which he had already qualified for, he fell and broke both bones (radius and ulna) in his forearm. Hunter underwent surgery to repair the break and began a long and painful rehabilitation process. Because of his hard work and dedication to rehab, Hunter was able to return and play football and wrestle the next season without complication. His work ethic and leadership helped Hunter excel with his teammates on and off the field.
