The complexities of spinal surgery demand advanced technology and a medical team with diverse expertise like those found at UK HealthCare.
By bringing together orthopaedic experts and neurosurgeons of the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute, we offer our patients an advanced multidisciplinary approach to spine care. From tumors to injuries to ailments such as scoliosis, our experienced physicians work hard to ensure that all patients receive high-quality, personalized care. |
Leading-edge Procedures
In addition to the combination of neurosurgery and orthopaedics, our patients have access to the most advanced medical technology, including leading-edge procedures for minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive procedures are designed to make the surgery itself more comfortable, speed recovery time, and reduce the risk of complications. Some of the advanced tools you will find at UK HealthCare include:
- Vertebroplasty, which relieves the pain of compression fractures and can also help strengthen vertebrae that have weakened but not yet fractured.
- Kyphoplasty, another procedure to bind painful vertebrae fractures and prevent future pain, especially in patients with osteoporosis.
- X-STOP, in which a pair of spinal implants stops the painful spine-narrowing process known as spinal stenosis.
Minimally invasive procedures require smaller incisions than traditional surgery, and some require only a local anesthetic. Most patients are able to return home the same day as their surgery.
