Sports Concussion Program
The Sports Concussion Program provides assessment of sports-related head injury as well as preseason baseline evaluations of athletes. The Immediate Post-concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT) program, originally developed at the University of Pittsburgh, is utilized at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and is used throughout professional-, college-, and high-school level sports in the U.S. and abroad, and assesses an athlete’s attention, memory, reaction time, and processing speed in the context of past functioning and history of cognitive insult. The Sports Concussion Program at UKMC provides athletes, families, coaches and trainers with immediate feedback on cognitive status and can help them make better-informed return-to-play decisions.
