Throughout the planning of our new hospital we have been guided by principles that speak to who we are and what we hope to achieve in providing the highest quality of care for our patients. These principles have shaped this building into a health care facility that will better serve our patients.
This facility will provide a comforting and welcoming environment with the highest quality of care that is easy to navigate with amenities convenient to patients and their families.
As we aspire to be a top 20 academic medical center, this facility must support patient-centered care around which our academic and research program can flourish.
This building will support multidisciplinary care, integrating both its inpatient and outpatient services with adjacent facilities providing a seamless care environment for our patients.
To provide the highest quality of care to our patients this building must be operationally efficient, reducing unnecessary duplication and housing only functions most important to enhancing the care process.
The structure of this new facility will afford the opportunity to adapt spaces and technology easily in response to advances in medical treatment and growth of our services.
Our new hospital will have a timeless design that is open and welcoming and provides a comforting environment for patients and their families.

- Chapel Glass
- Features three commissioned glass pieces: at the entrance wall on the hallway, a privacy wall just inside the entrance to the chapel, and at the front of the chapel before the exterior glass window.
- Kentucky Wall
- A ninety foot wall in the atrium along the mezzanine walkway that connects the new building and the Critical Care Center
- A photojournalistic approach to displaying the rich culture and geography of Kentucky
- Kentucky Folk Art
- Permanent and rotating exhibits featured in the Health Education Center
Performance art will occur primarily in the 300-seat auditorium on the main level of the atrium
