November 2007: New Hospital Garage & Shuttle Opens for Patients and Visitors

Construction on a new patient care facility to gradually replace the existing
UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital celebrates a major milestone on Monday Nov. 19, with the partial opening of the new Hospital Garage & Shuttle. The existing hospital garage will then close to make way for the construction of the new 1.2 million square foot, 12-floor patient care facility. Watch virtual tour of new hospital.
- UK Chandler Hospital Garage & Shuttle is located at 100 Transcript Avenue across S. Limestone between Conn Terrace and Transcript Avenue (enter from Transcript).
- For your safety, please DO NOT cross S. Limestone on foot.
- The basement, ground and second levels will be available forhospital parking on Nov. 19. Upon full completion of the garage in March 2008, there will be double the existing hospital visitor parking capacity.
- Free shuttles will take patients and visitors to Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Clinic.
- An ambassador will be in the parking garage 6 a.m. - 11 p.m. daily to answer questions and help guests use the shuttles, which are wheelchair accessible.
- A second ambassador will be stationed at the front entrance of the hospital to assist patients and guests.
- While construction continues on upper levels of the new garage, windows will be boarded for the safety of visitors and cars parked below. The new garage is well-lit and will be adequately ventilated for proper air quality.
- The former hospital garage will close on Nov. 19.
- Parking at the Kentucky Clinic does not change. The new Hospital Garage & Shuttle will provide secondary parking option for Kentucky Clinic patients and visitors. The existing Kentucky Clinic Parking Garage is still the first choice for patients of the clinic.
- Patients and visitors may continue to be dropped off and picked up at covered entrances to UK Chandler Hospital, Chandler Emergency and Kentucky Clinic.
New Emergency Entrance Opens Nov. 19
- On Monday, Nov. 19, a new entrance to the UK Chandler Hospital Emergency will open for patients and ambulances.
- This entrance and a small drop-off parking lot are located just off Hospital Drive near its intersection with S. Limestone.
- Friends and family members bringing a patient to Emergency may park for 30 minutes in the adjacent lot, but will be expected to move their car to the garage across the street.
Portion of Hospital Drive Closing
- On Monday, Nov. 19, the portion of Hospital Drive within the construction zone and closest to the old hospital parking garage will be closed.

24/7 Shuttle Service
- Shuttle service from the new garage will reduce walking time for visitors, providing safe, convenient “door to door” service to UK Chandler Emergency, UK Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Clinic.
- Shuttles buses will run every three minutes from inside the ground level of the garage to take pedestrians to and from UK Chandler Hospital’s front loop and Emergency entrances.
- The hospital shuttle will run 24/7.
- Another shuttle bus will make trips to and from Kentucky Clinic every three minutes.
- The Kentucky Clinic Shuttle will run Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- For your safety, please DO NOT cross S. Limestone on foot.
- The UK Chandler Hospital Parking Services branch office will be located on the ground level of the new Hospital Garage & Shuttle. Patients and visitors may visit this office to purchase discounted hospital and outpatient long-term parking passes.
