August 2006: Construction closures will affect part of Limestone
Effective March 25 through this Summer the south bound lane on Limestone between Transcript and Conn Terrace will be closed due to garage construction. This is required to do building demolition and reinstallation of sidewalks. At all
times a safe pedestrian sidewalk will be retained along the construction area. We are working with the contractor to minimize the length of the closure. The contractor is coordinating efforts with the City and campus to minimize traffic congestion.

UK HealthCare is not only constructing a new hospital; we are building a health care delivery
system for the future. A world-class team
of architects, engineers and consultants has
been selected and planning is ongoing. The
partnership of architectural firms GBBN and
AM Kinney is coordinating the project at the
local level, while drawing on the design talents
of national health care architects Ellerbe
Becket.
The plans for the new hospital not only will
benefit UK HealthCare and its patients, but
will also be an example of some of the most
innovative and functional hospital design in
the country.
The plans for the new patient
rooms allow for greater flexibility than currently infrastructure will give
the hospital the ability to transform a regular
patient room into an intensive care room, if
the need exists. Our emergency services and
surgical capacity will expand. And, most, if not
all, patient rooms will be private.
However, planners are not focused solely on
building a new hospital. The new patient care
facility is the first phase of an overall facilities
master plan for the entire medical and research
campus – one designed to meet future
health care, education and research needs.
Further down the road, in Phase 2 and Phase
3, we will build a facility on the site of the
existing hospital where patient care providers
will provide complex outpatient care, linked
with inpatient services in the new patient care
facility. The medical research and educational
activities of the university will primarily be
located west of Limestone creating a multidisciplinary
learning and research environment
for the colleges of the medical center. Planning
is under way to further define this part of
our campus.
In response to the location of the new
patient care facility, traffic along Rose St.
will be rerouted to Limestone via an
extension of Huguelet Drive to Virginia
Avenue.
