Health Focus - August/September 2005Non-invasive Treatment with Gamma Knife The Leksell Gamma Knife® Model C is a non-invasive form of treatment for tumors and trigeminal neuralgia, among other disorders, using 3-D computer planning from a CT scan, MRI or angiogram. The Gamma Knife concentrates beams of radiation to target the affected area. Individually, the beams are harmless; together they destroy target cells to treat tumors and disorders. Although some patients may stay overnight, the procedure usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes and almost all patients resume normal activity within a day or two. For a fact sheet, call us at 257-1000.
