College of PharmacyThe University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy was established August 16, 1870, as the Louisville College of Pharmacy, an independent institution of higher education. The College was incorporated by an act of the Kentucky General Assembly on February 6, 1873. In 1900 it was admitted to membership in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. At its founding, the College was an outgrowth of the preceptorial system of training pharmacists, a connection which continues today as pharmacy students develop professional skills by practicing with established pharmacists during portions of their study. Under the leadership of Dean Earl P. Slone, the College became a division of the University of Kentucky in 1947. The College moved to a new building on the Lexington Campus in 1957 and became part of the newly developed UK HealthCare in 1966. In 1985 the College moved to a new facility on the Medical Center Campus. The College continued its status as a nationally recognized educational institution throughout the '90s with a number three ranking in U.S. News & World Report polls of colleges of pharmacy offering graduate programs. By attracting nationally recognized faculty, the College added Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programs, pharmacy practice residencies, clinical service programs, a non-traditional Pharm.D. option, a program for postdoctoral scholars, and the Center for Pharmaceutical Science and Technology. Pharmacy Hours of Operation Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
