College of Medicine
The UK College of Medicine was established in 1956. The Medical Sciences Building
was completed in 1960 and in that same year the University enrolled its first
medical school class of forty students. Since then, 3,391 medical students have
earned the M.D. degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.
UK College of Medicine has acquired a national reputation in preparation of
primary care physicians, among other distinctions.
The mission of the College of Medicine is to assume a leadership role in addressing
the health care needs of the Commonwealth and to be preeminent among medical
schools in selected areas of education, research, and service.
