College of Health SciencesEstablished in 1966, the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences was the first school of its kind in Kentucky and among the first 12 in the United States. Originally known as the School of Allied Health Personnel, the name was changed to the College of Allied Health Professions when the Board of Trustees approved college status in 1970. In 2002, the name was changed to the College of Health Sciences. Over the past 30 years nearly 3,000 allied health professionals have been educated at the University of Kentucky. The mission of the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences is to help the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond to gain and retain the highest level of health through creative leadership and productivity in education, research, and service. The College of Health Sciences trains tomorrow’s health care professionals, whether they are physical therapists rehabilitating injured workers, physician assistants caring for the medically underserved in rural communities, or clinical laboratory scientists performing diagnostic tests to help physicians determine an illness.
Note: Effective in the 2001-2002 academic year, the Health Services Management program has suspended admission of additional classes pending the discontinuation of its undergraduate program. The final class admitted in the spring of 2001 will complete the program at the conclusion of Spring semester 2003. Students planning careers in health services management may contact the Division's Director of Undergraduate Studies for advice on career strategies. |
