College of DentistryThe College of Dentistry was established in 1961. From its beginning, it has been acknowledged nationally and internationally as a leader in academic dentistry. The curriculum, developed in Kentucky and now used extensively throughout the nation, focuses on integrating learning in the biomedical and clinical sciences. Since its founding, more than 1,500 aspiring practitioners have selected the University of Kentucky to prepare them for their chosen profession. The College of Dentistry at the University of Kentucky has a statewide oral health mission that every citizen of Kentucky will be free from oral disease and will have optimum oral health. Our goals are to help increase oral health care for all Kentuckians by educating the public about the importance of oral health, reducing oral health care access barriers for underserved populations, promoting the integration of oral and general health care delivery systems, developing improved educational resources and programs to educate dental auxiliaries for oral health care delivery systems, and advocating for the benefits of oral health care with policy-making bodies and organizations. The College offers advanced educational programs leading to advanced certification in general practice, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orofacial pain and orthodontics. In three of these, periodontics, orofacial pain and orthodontics, students also earn a Master of Science degree from the University of Kentucky Graduate School. The College of Dentistry and all of its programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.
