Referrals and Consultations 

The easiest way for community physicians to contact a University of Kentucky specialist for referrals or consultations is by calling the toll-free UK·MDs number. UK·MDs allows you to consult with UK HealthCare clinical staff regarding routine or difficult diagnoses, discuss new or alternative treatment modalities, make patient referrals, follow patient progress and discuss post-discharge care. When you call, a physician liaison will quickly route your call to the physician, department or division you request.

Online Patient Referrals

To make an online referral, go to our secure online patient referral form located at https://www.ukhealthcare.uky.edu/secure/secure-referapatient.htm.

Facsimile Service

The centralized facsimile service allows the referring physician to send an exact copy of a document to the UK HealthCare's clinical and hospital departments for immediate delivery. You can transmit patient information, signatures and order forms, continuing medical education and library requests, treatment protocols and patient education information toll-free. The centralized facsimile number is (800) 888-2693, or in Lexington (859) 323-4607.

Emergency Transport Services

Emergency Transport Service is available for critically ill and injured adult and pediatric patients. The program is designed to perform inter-hospital transports by helicopter and respond to patients by going to the scene of accidents. To reach Emergency Transport Services, call (800) 777-8537. You may also call UK·MDs (800) 888-5533 (in Lexington (859) 231-9922), and ask for the transport dispatcher.
