Our call advisors can help assess your medical needs, advise you on choosing a physician and connect you to the department or physician. They're also here to give directions to our locations and answer questions about your care. You can also make an appointment online and view our physician profiles for in-depth information. How do I get help after hours? For an urgent situation after hours, call the answering service at 859-323-0303. One of our doctors is on call at all times. If you need immediate attention, we will make every effort to have you seen by your primary care provider the same day. If your doctor is not available on that day, we will schedule you with another doctor or have a nurse contact you to discuss your needs. If you need to reach a physician after 5 p.m. on a weekday or during a weekend or holiday, call the paging operator at 859-323-5321 and ask to speak to the physician on call. If you or a family member needs care for an acute condition, such as a minor injury, the sudden onset of an illness or acute pain, you may seek care at an urgent care provider. A list of urgent care providers is provided below. They are not part of UK HealthCare. Patient information is private. The only health information that can be given over the phone is the patient’s condition (good, fair, serious or critical). If you are calling to check on a family member or friend, you must know the patient’s last name. Patients have the option of asking that no information be given out. Patient Information can transfer your call to the patient’s room or provide you with a room phone number. How do I find photos of new babies? The Birthing Center offers newborn and family photos from our Web Nursery at Our 365. These photos can be ordered and viewed by family members online or can be purchased by parents at the hospital. View new babies > What are hospital visiting hours? General visiting hours are 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., seven days a week. A visitor may stay past general visiting hours with nursing's approval. Patients are allowed a maximum of two visitors at a time. Certain areas of the hospital, including the Birthing Center, psychiatry and the intensive care units, have different visiting rules. Always check at the nurses’ station before visiting a patient.

The Health Information Library is UK HealthCare’s resource center for patients and family members. The information in the Health Information Library supplements the advice provided by your physician, nurse and other health care providers. We offer books, videos, brochures, models, posters, health newsletters and computers with Internet access. More info > How can I send flowers or mail to a patient? Mail is delivered to patients Monday through Friday. Mail received after patients have left the hospital will be forwarded to their home. If you have any concerns about mail delivery, call the volunteer office at 859-323-6023. Flowers will be delivered directly to patient rooms, except for patients in the intensive care units. Flowers are not allowed in the intensive care units and will be left at the nurses’ station.
Where can I find something to eat? Food service Dietitians Food delivery service schedule Visitor trays Food services UK HealthCare will be tobacco free starting Nov. 20, 2008 UK HealthCare has made the commitment that there will be no tobacco use permitted in or on any UK HealthCare facility or grounds as of November 20, 2008. More information > The hospital is a smoke-free facility. The no-smoking policy applies to all patient rooms, bathrooms, waiting areas, lounges, hospital entrances, skywalks and tunnels. You cannot buy cigarettes at the hospital. Until November 20, 2008 smoking areas are located in the courtyard between the hospital and the UK Markey Cancer Center, and near the cafeteria. If you follow the blue tiles from the information desk to the outside, you will find a heated smoking area. Directions may be obtained from the information desk inside the main lobby. Information is available on our parking information page. Where can I get a prescription filled? The Kentucky Clinic Pharmacy is on the first floor of the Kentucky Clinic in room J-134 next to the South Limestone entrance. The Pharmacy is open Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m.
- 6:30 p.m.; Saturday Where can I find health-related articles? The Health Information Library (HIL) is open 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Friday. HIL is located on the first floor of UK Chandler Hospital, near the ATM and Information Desk. If you are unable to visit the HIL during regular hours, leave a message at 859-323-7808. HIL has a list of their media materials online. Visit UK HealthCare's health topics online. Volunteer blood donations are greatly appreciated and can be made to the community blood supply. To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. You can donate blood every 56 days. Central Kentucky Blood Center is a nonprofit community blood center serving 65 hospitals and clinics in Kentucky. Donor centers are located in Hazard, Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Somerset and Lexington. For general blood donation information, call the Central Kentucky Blood Center (CKBC) at 859-276-2534 or toll free 1-800-775-2522. CKBC locations: 3121 Beaumont Center Circle, Lexington, KY. There is an ATM located on the first floor of the hospital just past the Information Desk on the right side. If this cash machine is unavailable, another one is located in the first floor of the College of Medicine building behind the hospital. See our list of ATMs for more cash machine locations. Where can I find an online phone directory? For a listing of frequently called numbers, go to our contact page. How can I contact the customer service patient representative? The customer service patient pepresentative serves as a direct line to all hospital or Kentucky Clinic departments and administration when there is a complaint, suggestion or compliment.
Where can I find an interpreter? UK A.B. Chandler Hospital is committed to making our services available to all our patients and has access to interpreters for a number of foreign languages and American Sign Language. If you need an interpreter, please tell your nurse or call 859-323-8951 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Back to top Tell your nurse if you need a sign language interpreter or other resources to help you communicate. Certified American Sign Language interpreters are available at UK Chandler Hospital. The Language Services Coordinator can place a telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) in your room. A TDD is also located in the Emergency Department and at in the bank of telephones on the first floor of the hospital near the Information Desk. Call 859-323-8951 for more information. How do I find answers to billing questions? For financial counseling regarding your bill or insurance, contact the Financial Services Department. If you have been in the hospital or emergency department, call inpatient services at 859-257-8111. To find out if your insurance is accepted, go to the list of Insurers. How can I obtain my medical records? For your protection, medical records are considered confidential records of hospital activity and are hospital property. If you would like a copy of your medical records, discuss it with your physician. While in the hospital, you may request your medical records by calling Medical Correspondence at 859-323-5117 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you would like to request a copy after you are discharged, please contact: Medical Records Department Medical records requests may take a week to complete. More information > How can I participate in a research study? Clinical trials always are ongoing at UK HealthCare. Physicians frequently recruit participants in those trials. The easiest way for a physician to reach another physician at the UK HealthCare is to call the toll-free UK·MDs number, 1-800-888-5533. UK·MDs allows you to consult with UK HealthCare clinical staff physicians regarding routine or difficult diagnoses, discuss new or alternative treatment modalities, make patient referrals, follow patient progress and discuss post-discharge care. A physician liaison will quickly route your call to the physician, department, division or clinical service you request. UK·MDs welcomes your comments, requests or suggestions on how we may better serve you. How do I make a donation to UK HealthCare? Gifts are tax deductible and may be donated for use in areas of greatest need, or for an area of specific interest.
