Ride-sharing service available for UK HealthCare employees

University of Kentucky Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) recently launched AlterNetRides, a new online ride-sharing service. The new program will connect UK faculty, staff, students, and guests who wish to coordinate carpools, and, in the process, save gas and money and decrease their impact on the environment.

Destinations currently available:

• UK Campus
• Alumni Park Plaza / Sterlington Road
• Coldstream Research Campus

With this free service, users may search for those with similar transportation needs by time of day, frequency, and location. By communicating through the AlterNetRides Web site, personal information such as e-mail address and phone number remain confidential unless the user chooses to share them with another rider.

The ride-matching service is provided by PTS free of charge. The only costs are those that the members of the carpool agree to share, such as fuel or vehicle maintenance costs. Carpools with three or more riders are also eligible to purchase a carpool parking permit. The service can be used to find rides on a daily basis, a one-time ride or anything in between.
