Division of Neurology
UK Pediatric Neurology
service supervises its own inpatients in conjunction with the pediatric
ward team as well
as providing inpatient consultation services. The University-based outpatient
clinic has approximately 1,000 patient visits per year, and a similar
number of visits are conducted in the outreach clinics in the Appalachian
counties of Eastern Kentucky.
All pediatric house staff rotate for one month in the child neurology
service; additional elective rotations are available. Teaching activities
include bedside discussions of diagnostic and management issues, informal
topic-oriented discussions, and formal didactic sessions.
During this time the house staff becomes familiar with common neurologic
problems such as epilepsy and cerebral palsy, and learn the basics of
head CT and MRI interpretation and the indications for video-EEG monitoring
and other special tests.
