Division of Nephrology
UK Nephrology has
an active inpatient clinical service, with a usual daily census of two
to
five patients
on the nephrology service and several patients who are seen in consultation.
The faculty and staff of the division participate actively in the care
of children with acute renal failure who require hemodialysis, peritoneal
dialysis, or hemodiafiltration.
Usually 40 patients per week are seen in the three renal outpatient
clinics. In addition to evaluating children with hypertension, nephritis,
nephrotic syndrome, enuresis, and urinary tract infections, the division
provides outpatient care to children receiving chronic dialysis as well
as patients who have undergone kidney transplantation. A renal clinic
is held every Monday afternoon at Shriner's Hospital for Children for
children with neurogenic bladder.
