Division of Genetics and Dysmorphology
UK Genetics and Dysmorphology
serves about 700 patients each year for formal genetic diagnosis and counseling.
Patients are seen in outpatient clinics, regional clinics in Eastern Kentucky,
the neonatal unit, newborn nursery and the wards. All pediatric residents
spend one month on the genetics service. During this time, the resident
will gain experience in the science of dysmorphology, taking family histories,
constructing pedigrees, and providing genetic counseling. The unique patient
population of Eastern Kentucky offers a wide array of complex and interesting
genetic problems.
The division is staffed by a clinical geneticist/dysmorphologist and
two master's level genetic counselors.
