Division
of Developmental and Behavioral Medicine
UK Development
and Behavioral Pediatrics
education of post-graduate trainees is provided in multiple settings.
Block rotations are part of the general pediatric curriculum. These
are geared to introducing the trainee to psychosocial aspects and
interventions
applicable to general pediatrics, parent guidance, developmental testing,
adolescent counseling, family therapy and the use of psychotropic medication.
A weekly assessment clinic is held for children with delays in cognitive,
motor and language development. The trainee is likely to become acquainted
with the diagnosis of autism as well as treatment techniques for developmental
delay during this clinic. A weekly behavioral clinic is part of the
educational offering. During this clinic children referred by Fayette
County Health
Department and schools are evaluated for possible attention deficit
disorder. One half-day a week is spent in an elementary school
clinic. In that setting,
children with asthma, Attention Deficit Disorder, and general pediatric
problems are seen.
