Last week the Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) held their annual Health Care Leadership Conference here in Lexington. CEOs, COOs, CFOs, government relations staff, and many more from hospitals around the state were in attendance. It was a busy schedule, full of many esteemed speakers. The speaker lineup included Majority Floor Leader Rocky Adkins, Secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services Janie Miller, Representative Jimmie Lee, Senator Julie Denton, and Senator David Givens.

Healthcare in the state of Kentucky has been changing with the implementation of Medicaid Managed Care on November 1 and with the Affordable Care Act at both the national and state level. Each speaker gave his or her opinion on the changes happening in the Commonwealth, while also providing some valuable information regarding other topics such as the state budget, the recent election, certificate of need, and the upcoming priorities for the 2012 Legislative Session. At the end of the session, Mark Seklecki, Vice President of Political Affairs for the American Hospital Association, gave the members an update on health reform from the federal level.

KHA is a professional hospital organization that "represents hospitals, related health care organizations, and integrated health care systems dedicated to sustaining and improving the health status of the citizens of Kentucky." KHA President Michael T. Rust, FACHE and his staff do a remarkable job of visiting hospitals around the state to understand the issues that these facilities face on a daily basis.

UK HealthCare has always had a wonderful relationship with the folks from KHA. We appreciate all they do for us!
