Princess Send-off Party
On Nov. 1, Kentucky Children's Hospital held a "Princess" send-off
party for Kentucky's 2010 Children's Miracle Network Champion, Abby
Martin. Lots of people joined in the fun at Champs Entertainment Complex
in Lexington for this little girl. Miss Kentucky crowned Abby, a
Kentucky Children's Hospital patient, as "Little Miss Kentucky
Children's Hospital." For their courage and perseverance, the "champion
children" have been selected as international ambassadors for the 17
million children treated each year at Children's Miracle Network (CMN)
children's hospitals. Kentucky Children's Hospital is a CMN hospital.
Before Abby, now age 6, was born, doctors discovered her heart was on
the wrong side. The minute she came into the world, Abby was
transported to Kentucky Children's Hospital for the first of 25
developmental surgeries in just two years. It wasn't until Abby was 40
days old that she was diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome. But Abby has no
idea how different she is compared to other children. She walks right up
to anyone, with a little help, with that same aura of happiness. She's
learning sign language and communicates with such personality you can't
help but take notice. She encompasses multiple strengths in her tiny
body and with all her positivity, there's no doubt she'll keep
cheerfully conquering obstacles. The Kentucky Children's Hospital has a
special place in my heart and after reading stories like this I'm sure
it does for my readers as well.
