UK HealthCare tobacco-free policy

We'll be tobacco free starting November 20, 2008

In November 2007, Michael Karpf, MD, executive vice president for health affairs, announced that UK HealthCare had joined the Kentucky Hospital Association’s Tobacco-free Healthcare Collaborative.

A coalition of area hospitals has made the tobacco-free committment
This group of health care providers in Lexington and  surrounding communities is working together to implement tobacco-free campus policies and commit to going completely tobacco-free by Nov. 20, 2008, in conjunction with the next Great American Smokeout.

UK Board of Trustees has approved the initiative
On April 22, 2008, the UK Board of Trustees gave final approval to the revised version of the university policy that outlines the university’s smoke-free policy. This effectively states that as of Nov. 20, 2008, UK HealthCare has made the commitment that there will be no tobacco use permitted in or on any UK HealthCare facility or grounds.

Several activities are under way to make the transition to a tobacco-free health care campus:
