UK HealthCare tobacco-free policy
We are tobacco free.
As of November 2008, UK HealthCare has made the commitment that there will be no tobacco use permitted in or on any UK HealthCare facility or grounds.
In November 2007, Michael Karpf, MD, executive vice president for health affairs, announced that UK HealthCare had joined the Kentucky Hospital Association’s Tobacco-free Healthcare Collaborative.
A coalition of area hospitals made the tobacco-free commitment
This group of health care providers in Lexington and surrounding communities has worked together to implement tobacco-free campus policies and committed to going completely tobacco-free by November 20, 2008, in conjunction with the Great American Smokeout.
UK Board of Trustees approved the initiative
On April 22, 2008, the UK Board of Trustees gave final approval to the revised version of the university policy that outlines the university’s smoke-free policy. This effectively states that as of November 20, 2008 there is no tobacco use permitted in or on any UK HealthCare facility or grounds.
