LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 9, 2009) - UK HealthCare wants to be your friend-on Facebook, as well as in your quest for better health.
The University of Kentucky's clinical enterprise has launched several ways to connect patients and other information seekers with those who may be helpful in understanding more about their health and the innovative work of the academic medical center.
UK HealthCare has launched a Facebook page to post news, events and video links to people who become a fan of UK HealthCare, as well as Twitter for quick information updates, and a YouTube channel for posting medical information video.
UK HealthCare is also reaching out to consumers with a new forum site which allows visitors to ask physicians questions. The first interactive forum is a hernia site moderated by Dr. Scott Roth, chief of gastrointestinal surgery.
The site also features a blog hosted by Mark Birdwhistell, chief external affairs officer for UK HealthCare.
As part of the new media launch, UK HealthCare Good Samaritan Hospital has a new site.
With a growing number of people on global social media sites (approximately 85 million unique users on YouTube each month and 150 million Facebook subscribers), more people are turning to social media for information, including health news. UK HealthCare seeks to be a key source of health information for people in Kentucky and beyond.
