The Student Behavioral Health Service is part of University Health Service, located at 830 South Limestone Street, directly south of the Kentucky Clinic and in front of the Wethington Building. We recognize that emotional and psychological health are important factors in a student's ability to perform well academically and adjust socially.  Students face many stressors, from learning to live with roommates to choosing a career path. At times, changes and adjustments can lead to emotional difficulties which can affect a  student's ability to function at his or her best. The Behavioral Health Service can help with a variety of issues and concerns that students may face as they try to navigate through college life. To schedule an appointment with the Behavioral Health Service, call (859) 323-5511, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Services are confidential.

All students who are eligible for services at the University Health Service are eligible for services in Behavioral Health. There is no charge for UK full-time students and UK part-time students who pre-pay the student health fee. UK part-time students without the health fee may be seen on a fee-for-service basis. BCTC students who want to pay the health fee can click here for more information.

The Behavioral Health Clinic can offer an initial assessment to all students eligible for services. However, the Behavioral Clinic does not have adequate resources to treat all types of psychological or psychiatric problems. Certain students will require more specialized or comprehensive treatment than we can offer. Those individuals will be referred to resources in the community following an initial evaluation.

Behavioral Health Clinic Staff
The Behavioral Health Clinic is staffed by two board-certified psychiatrists and one advanced practice registered nurse. Psychiatric residents (physicians who are completing their training in psychiatry) are also available to see students.

Evaluation
A first visit to the Behavioral Health Clinic usually involves a brief discussion about the student's background and the nature of the current problem. This helps to clarify the student's needs and develop a treatment plan. As noted above, the treatment plan may include treatment at the Behavioral Health Clinic, the UK Counseling and Testing Center, or referral to resources in the community.

Treatment
Evaluation, brief crisis intervention, and medication management are offered for a host of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, attention difficulties, stress, grief, and many others.

Consultation and Outreach
Members of the Behavioral health staff are available to consult with students, faculty and staff on Behavioral health issues. Staff members also will give presentations to campus organizations and groups on a variety of Behavioral health topics.

For further information or to schedule an appointment, call (859) 323-5511.
