Frequently-Asked QuestionsHow do I make an appointment? How do I make an appointment?With Kentucky Children's Hospital, finding the physician you need or scheduling an appointment couldn’t be easier. Our nurse counselors can help assess your medical needs, advise you on the right physician, and connect you to the department or physician. What’s more, they’ll help you with directions to our locations, answer questions about your care and more. To request an appointment, please call (800) 333-8874 or (859) 257-1000. How can I cancel or reschedule an appointment?We know sometimes problems arise in your schedule. If you are unable to keep any of your appointments please call (800) 333-8874, (859) 257-1000 or (859) 323-6211 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00pm to cancel or reschedule and we can connect you to someone who would be happy to help. What hours are you open?If you are a new patient looking for a primary care physician, an appointment with an existing physician, or if you have a need for urgent care, please call UK HealthCare at (859) 257-1000 or (800) 333-8874. The telephones at UK HealthCare are staffed by nurses that can assist in determining your needs. Telephones are staffed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For urgent, after-hours appointments, the Twilight Clinic hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Is there a place to eat?Food Services Your child's diet, as ordered by his or her physician, is an important part of therapy while in the hospital. A registered dietitian, or the dietitian's assistant, can talk with you about your child's preferences and special diet needs. Nourishment Centers are available on each In-patient unit to help parents provide snacks for their children. The Dietetics and Nutrition Department stocks a refrigerator with snack food, drinks, and condiments for the patients. A microwave and a small refrigerator also are available for families of patients. Coffee Shop The Hospital Coffee Shop, located off the lobby near the main entrance, provides meal service Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The coffee shop is closed holidays and weekends. Change machines also are available in the vending area. Is an after hours clinic available?The faculty and staff of the Twilight Children's Clinic offer after-hours urgent, non-emergency pediatric care by appointment only. For appointments, call (859) 257-6730. The clinic is located on the second floor of the Kentucky Clinic. Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Twilight Children's Clinic How can I reach a doctor or a nurse after hours?The faculty and staff of the Twilight Children's Clinic offer after-hours urgent, non-emergency pediatric care by appointment only. For appointments, call (859) 257-6730. The clinic is located on the second floor of the Kentucky Clinic. Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Twilight Children's Clinic Where will I park?Parking is available on a 24-hour basis next to the hospital for inpatients or hospital appointments, also next to the Kentucky Clinic for outpatient clinic appointments. There is a charge for parking, and rates are posted at the entrance to the parking garage. Parking fees are charged hourly, but there is a maximum limit for fees that will be charged if an automobile is left in the parking garage for an extended period of time. Parking in the Kentucky Clinic South and North include free parking spaces adjacent to the clinic buildings. A seven-day visitor pass also is available at a discounted rate for inpatient parking. After purchasing two seven-day passes, there will be no further charge for additional passes. For more information, please contact (859) 323-6156. Who do I contact if I have financial or insurance questions?Kentucky Children's Hospital files insurance claims as a courtesy to you. We are a preferred provider in many managed care and health insurance plans. Please make sure we are on your list of participating hospitals. If we are not, you may be financially responsible for your bill. It is possible to still access UK Hospital if not on your list of participating hospitals if proper approval from your health plan is obtained. Deductibles, private room differences and any patient balances due may be paid at discharge or we can bill you. Your bill can be settled with cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard. We can even set you up on a payment plan based on set guidelines. Kentucky Medical Services Foundation or KMSF will bill any services you receive from physicians such as outpatient clinic appointments, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and neonatologists to your insurance carrier or you separately. UK Hospital will bill your insurance carrier or you for non-physician or facility charges such as room and board, nursing services, laboratory services, and medical supplies. For questions regarding KMSF Physician or Kentucky Clinic billing please call (859) 257-7910. If you would like to visit, we are on the first floor of UK Hospital, between the main entrance and information desk. An itemized statement of your account can be sent to you by request. It takes approximately five (5) business days after your discharge date. You can call Patient Accounts at (859) 257-8111 or toll free at (800) 288-2779 to request an itemized bill. The office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Patients Accounts Department Physician services and Outpatient Kentucky Clinic services are billed separately by Kentucky Medical Services Foundation (KMSF). Any questions concerning physician billings should be directed to: Kentucky Medical Services Foundation How can I obtain my child’s medical records?UK Hospital Medical Records Medical records are official records of hospital activity and are considered hospital property. If you want to see your records while you are in the hospital, you may request a copy from the Customer Service office at (859) 323-8951. If you want a copy after leaving the hospital, contact the UK Hospital Medical Records department at (859) 323-5117. The first copy of your medical record is free of charge to you or anyone
you allow to obtain a copy. A standard fee will be charged for additional
copies. Your medical records will be released at your request to any
doctor free of charge. Kentucky Clinic Medical Records The Kentucky Clinic Medical Records office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. direct questions to (859) 323-5561. How To Receive Your Records In order to protect your privacy, your written permission to release the medical record will be required. To obtain a photocopy of your medical records, please submit by mail a signed copy of the Authorization for Release of Medical Records form. What is the Young Parents Program?Young parents have special needs. The UK Young Parents Program was created to meet the needs of young parents with children. The young mother and her child can receive care during the same appointment. The following services are provided:
Patients who cannot obtain an appointment during the regular hours of the UK Young Parents Program can be seen in UK Pediatrics. Appointments for the UK Department of Pediatrics Young Parents Program are available on Tuesdays 8:45 to 11 a.m., Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 8:45 to 11 a.m., in the Kentucky Clinic, Department of Pediatrics.
