Aquatic Therapy
This therapy uses the physical properties of water to assist with patient healing, exercise performance and return to quality of life.
Benefits include:
Activity can begin more quickly, allowing an earlier return to prior level of function.
Buoyancy reduces weight bearing and allows a person to move more easily with decreased stress on muscles, joints and bones.
The warmth and water pressure help to relax muscles, improve range of motion and circulation, and decrease swelling.
Water resistance provides gentle strengthening without weights.
Individuals with a variety of disabilities and orthopaedic conditions can participate in aquatic therapy. It is especially effective for post-operative and pain-sensitive patients as well as for those with injuries and conditions that have not responded to traditional forms of treatment.
