LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 19, 2010) −The Kentucky Children's Hospital is offering Safe Sitter, a hands-on class for boys and girls ages 11 to 13, teaching them how to care for younger children. Classes will be held at 181 Lowry Lane, off Nicholasville Road in Lexington from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 29-30. The cost is $30. Deadline to register is June 18.

Safe Sitter is a medically accurate class that teaches boys and girls how to handle emergencies when caring for children. Young children cannot always communicate their needs or protect themselves. The babysitter must be able to handle whatever situation arises.

  • Safety for the sitter
  • How to call for emergency help
  • Babysitting business skills
  • Basic child care skills (diapering, feeding, etc.)
  • How to entertain children and keep them safe
